About Us
A Brief History
Refugee Action Kingston (R.A.K) was set up in 1991 by a group of refugees and voluntary sector workers who had become aware that refugees in Kingston were very isolated and needed specialist help and support. The organisation was run by volunteers at first but by 1996, it had employed a Manager for the first time and moved into an office shared with other voluntary organisations. In 1998, a Volunteer Services Co-ordinator was employed and the range of services widened. Now in 2008, R.A.K employs 6 staff and benefits from the skills of over 50 volunteers. In total, R.A.K provides 8 projects to meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers.
