Community Hub

The Refugee Action Kingston Community Hub is dedicated to addressing the challenges that are faced by those navigating the refugee experience. Kindly funded by our friends at the Big Lottery and the Community Resilience Fund. We provide English language learning, friendship and holistic support to refugees and asylum seekers in Kingston through a comprehensive programme of activity centred around hobbies, sport, the arts and creativity.

Learn English at our Community Hub

The Community Hub deliver English classes to gain confidence and tackle social isolation and loneliness. Practical skills and hobby-based activities promote language retention and English practice, such as cookery, sewing and crafts, as well as games, creative writing and gardening.

This wraparound support addresses not only practical challenges around communication but also nurtures emotional well-being and social integration.

Every month, the Community Hub hosts a Health and Well Being day funded through KVA Health Inequalities. We want to help our community to understand how to look after their health by offering early invention and preventative guidance. As well as facilitating access to services for long term and chronic health issues.

The Refugee Action Kingston Community Hub provides a safe and welcoming space where people can access all the support offered by RAK including an Immigration and Welfare Advice drop in service on a Wednesday morning.

Our Walk and Talk event is a popular weekly event where clients can practise their English and connect with others.

What we offer

We offer Community Hub sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday in various community venues in Central Kingston. The Community Hub provides opportunities for skill-building, learning English, advocacy and networking.

We offer Walk and Talk on a Monday morning in the local area, where clients can practise their English, talk and connect with others. It is an integral part of the Community Hub and often the first step to engaging with everything that RAK can offer.

Meet Saleh* - Refugee Action Kingston Stories

Our client, Saleh, knew little English and was feeling isolated and very anxious. He came with us to try Parkrun and enjoyed it so much that he's been running ever since! He also runs with GoodGym, where he has made friends and is part of a caring community. He is happy to report that he has lost weight and is feeling much better than before. Refugees & asylum seekers deserve community, fun, and exercise – just like anyone else!
