Work experience - positives all round

We really appreciated having students from local schools join us for their work experience week. Our clients love working with young people. It is so inspiring to hear their reflections on RAK’s team.

“During my work experience at Refugee Action Kingston (RAK), I learned a great deal about working in a professional office environment while also seeing the positive impact that a supportive community can have on people's lives. The staff and wider community were incredibly kind and welcoming, creating a strong sense of inclusion and care. It was clear through my interactions with both clients and employees that everyone was treated with respect and kindness.

RAK's dedication to supporting the community by welcoming people into its activities and classes demonstrated its commitment to helping those in need. Throughout the week, I took part in a variety of activities, including sports such as table tennis and tennis, as well as English lessons. Regardless of the activity, it was always clear that these sessions had a positive effect on the clients, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills, and feel more connected to the community.

In addition, I had the opportunity to attend meetings, where I witnessed the care, compassion, and the dedication of the staff. Their commitment to supporting others created a positive and encouraging atmosphere throughout the office. Everyone was friendly, approachable, and always had a smile on their face, which made me feel genuinely welcomed during my placement.

Overall, my time at Refugee Action Kingston was an extremely rewarding experience. It gave me valuable insight into the workplace and showed me the importance of compassion, teamwork, and respect in an office workplace. It is an experience that I will always remember and cherish.”
